Careem appoints Hussein Bayati as the new General Manager in Iraq
Baghdad, Iraq, March 30, 2022 – Careem, the region’s leading multi-service platform, announced the appointment of Hussein Bayati as its General Manager in Iraq.
Bayati brings over 15 years of experience in Iraq and has held several leadership positions including Iraq Country Manager of Open Sooq; the biggest online classifieds company in MENA, in addition to other managerial positions in other leading telecommunications and technology companies including Awal Telecom; a Zain-owned company, Kalimat Telecom; a nationwide telecom operator, and Huawei Technologies.
Bayati is responsible for growing Careem’s ride-hailing and delivery businesses and building strong partnerships with local institutions. He will manage Careem’s fast-growing team in Iraq and lead Careem’s strategy to bring safe, reliable, and affordable mobility to Customers across Baghdad, Najaf, Erbil, and Basra in line with Iraq Vision 2030.

Bayati is one of the main supporters of entrepreneurs in Iraq, as over the past few years he has helped many small and emerging companies in Baghdad and Erbil through mentorship and training programs in cooperation with business incubators such as The Station and international institutions such as GIZ. Hussain holds an Executive MBA from the Quantic College of Business and Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Baghdad.
