Iraq to start producing 1000 megawatts from solar energy
According to the Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Electricity stated on Sunday that it will begin generating 1000 megawatts from solar energy through a project carried out in four governorates (INA).
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Musa, stated: “According to the deal signed with the Emirati company, Masdar, the electricity that would be produced from the solar energy will be 1000 megawatts.”
Musa went on to explain that the ministry talked about the project’s technical requirements, economic viability, and timeline. The project’s completion will take two to three years, he noted.
Musa stated that the ministry has previously agreed to contracts for the production of 7500 megawatts of solar energy with companies in France, China, and Norway.
The first phase of the project’s solar power plants will generate 350 megawatts in Al-Anbar governorate, 100 megawatts in Nineveh governorate, 450 megawatts in Dhi Qar governorate, and 100 megawatts in Maysan governorate.
