Iraqis Protest Rise in Prices of Basic Food Items, Blamed on Ukraine War
Iraqis in the south of the country are protesting a rise in food prices. The price of cooking oils and flour have surged in the country, attributed to the current conflict in Ukraine.
Over 500 demonstrators gathered on Wednesday in Nasiriya to protest the rise in the price of basic food items.
The gathering comes a day after the Iraqi government announced several measures to stem the skyrocketing prices. This includes a monthly allowances for retirees and civil servants, as well as suspending customs duties on food products.
