New initiatives expected in Iraqi dialogue session
New initiatives expected in Iraqi dialogue session while Sadrists jockey to return to parliament
Analysts anticipate that Halbousi and Kadhimi would attempt to reconcile the disagreements between the Coordination Framework and the Sadrist Current in their discussions on Monday.
Iraq’s Baghdad
According to Iraqi political observers, the de-escalation of hostilities between the Sadrist movement and the Coordination Framework in support of Iran may open the door for fresh moves by Iraqi political actors to reach a settlement. As the next National Dialogue session, called by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, begins Monday, these can surface outside the quarreling Shia duo.
They assert that Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi might have a significant role.
Meanwhile, in a shocking move, the Moqtada Sadr-led Sadrist party has petitioned the supreme court to overturn the mass resignation of its members of parliament from the legislature.
In their discussions on Monday, Halbousi and Kadhimi are expected to attempt to indirectly resolve the disputes between the Coordination Framework and the Sadrist Current.
